1. What is the typical service life of Jiuzhou Activated Alumina?
In standard compressed air dryers, our premium activated alumina generally provides a service life of 2 to 4 years. Actual durability depends on operating parameters, including feed air temperature, upstream oil pre-filtration efficiency, regeneration cycle profiles, and mechanical stress within the bed.
2. How is Activated Alumina regenerated, and at what temperatures?
Regeneration involves removing captured moisture by heating the adsorbent bed. Typical thermal regeneration (TSA) ranges from 150°C to 250°C (302°F to 482°F). High temperatures could damage the porous crystal lattice, while insufficient heat will result in incomplete regeneration, raising the outlet dew point.
3. How does Activated Alumina differ from Molecular Sieve adsorbents?
Activated Alumina features a broad range of pore sizes, making it effective for removing high-concentration water vapor and general impurities. In contrast, molecular sieves possess precise, uniform pore openings (such as 3Å, 4Å, or 10Å), allowing them to selectively target molecules based on size. They are often layered together to achieve deep drying.
4. Why is crush strength a critical factor for industrial adsorbents?
Inside high-pressure drying towers, the media is subjected to weight and frictional forces from fast-flowing gases. Poor crush strength causes the material to break down into dust. This dust can block filters, increase pressure drop across the system, and shorten desiccant lifespan. Jiuzhou products are formulated to exceed industrial crush strength requirements.
5. Can activated alumina remove oil vapor from compressed air systems?
While activated alumina can physically adsorb oil vapor, doing so causes permanent fouling. Heavy oil hydrocarbons block the microporous structure, preventing water molecules from reaching adsorption sites. Installing high-efficiency coalescing filters upstream is recommended to prevent oil contamination.
